Elder D. Todd Christofferson (Apr. '20): "Sharing the Message of the Restoration and the Resurrection"
Explanation:
The ideas in this blog are meant to be used in small, home-like environments (2-5 people), although any of them could be adapted for other contexts. I am also envisioning these activities as guided by a parent(s), but again that need not be the case. For teaching ideas to use in Relief Society and Elders Quorum classes see my other blog here.
For Adults:
- Talk about how it feels when we try to do missionary work and it doesn't work out.
- Read par. 22 ("Perhaps it goes . . . love remains constant").
- Discuss lessons learned from this quote.
- Read the story of Uncle Jonathon (par. 12-15: "Years ago, our . . . to be baptized").
- Silently, ponder who you could make a greater effort to love as the Ho Ching family loved Jonathon.
- Identify one thing you can do to strengthen your relationship with this person, e.g. send a text, pray for greater love, go visit them (according to local health guidelines, of course), etc.
For Teens:
- Read par. 19 ("The third requisite . . . share the Restoration").
- Make a list with the teens of why the Book of Mormon is uniquely suited for us to use in missionary work (some answers can be found in the quote, but there are others).
- Highlight the fact that the Book of Mormon answers important questions for our day.
- In Preach My Gospel, review the list of questions that are answered by the Book of Mormon found on page 107 of the English version (in the section entitled "The Book of Mormon Answers Questions of the Soul").
- Discuss how the teens might use these sections (and/or the ideas found therein) when talking with their friends.
- Perhaps role play a situation, if it seems appropriate.
For Tweens/Kids:
- Read par. 2 ("But the Restoration . . . especially urgent today").
- Discuss for a moment how the truths restored during this dispensation can help people facing some of the trials of our day.
- Talk for a moment about how we can share the gospel message with those around us.
- Read par. 9 ("While our invitations . . . Book of Mormon").
- Role play some situations where the tweens/kids could share a small, simple inviationa with their friends. Make the situations appplicable to their lives.
