Pres. Russell M. Nelson (Oct. '20): "Embrace the Future with Faith"

Explanation:

The ideas in this blog are meant to be used in small, home-like environments (2-5 people), although any of them could be adapted for other contexts.  I am also envisioning these activities as guided by a parent(s), but again that need not be the case.  For teaching ideas to use in larger settings, e.g. Relief Society and Elders Quorum classes, see my other blog here.

For Adults/Teens

  1. Get 3 pieces of paper.  Label each paper with one of the principles that Pres. Nelson goes over, i.e. "Create Places of Security," "Prepare Your Minds to be Faithful to God," and "Never Stop Preparing."
  2. Explain that these are three keys Pres. Nelson gave us to be able to flourish amidst trials.
  3. Take a moment to jot down on each paper ideas for why that principle is so important.
  4. Take time to skim each of these sections of the talk to answer the questions 1) why is this so important?  and 2) how can we do each of these things?

 For Tweens/Kids:

  1. Ask each one to imagine being outside in a horrible storm-- cold, sleet/rain/snow, thunder, lightning, wind, etc.-- and talk about what they would want.
  2. The answer will eventually come to a safe place to be.  Explain that for us this should be our homes.
  3. Read par. 17 "Similarly, as turmoil . . . line of defense."
  4. Talk about ways we can prepare our homes to be places of security for us not just during bad weather but also during hard times.
